By the flickering hearth of a lonely wooden hut, two figures basked in its warmth.

The first was a creature of the night, silent and deadly under the waxingmoon.

The second, a thaumaturge, despised and feared throughout the lands.

The vampire hung upside down, dangling off a joist. Her complexion was as pale as death, contrasting the black shroud of her large batlike wings.

She reached out and adjusted the droopy pointed hat of the witch, who smiled back at her.

“Thanks for the hard work, Tomori,” said the witch.

Despite their living situation, they only ever saw each other in slim windows of time like this. By day, the witch would brew as the vampire torpored in her coffin. By night, the vampire would watch over their home and forage as the witch slept.

The witch stood up and pulled the shoulder of her black robes aside. She barely winced as cold hands held her head still and fangs sunk into her neck.

“…Sorry I haven’t managed to catch you awake lately, you must be starving.”
The vampire let the witch go after almost an eternity, licking her bloody fangs as she released herself from the ceiling and landed gracefully on the ground.

“Taki, it… it hasn’t been that long.” said the vampire as she deftly mended the witch’s wounds with the supplies on the table.

“T-Tomori… You drank a lot… I’m feeling a bit woozy…”

“I-I’m sorry…” The vampire’s pointed ears seemed to droop.

The witch patted her head. “You shouldn’t be going hungry, Tomori… I’ll sleep it off.”

“Please rest then… it’s getting late.”

“Yeah… see you in the morning.”

The witch shakily stood up, helped to her feet by the vampire. Before settling her into bed, the vampire put her wings around the witch and put her head on her shoulder.

“Thanks for your hard work too, Taki. Goodnight…”

“Goodnight…”

With those parting words, she let the witch go to bed, watching as her eyes fluttered shut as she drifted off into the world of dreams.

Cast out from society and despite their opposing natures, the two found the means of survival and solace with each other. With nary a soul for miles upon miles, no one would bother them as they lived out their days in peace within this swamp.
